Angel's STEM Workshop - February 23, 2019
The BDPA Huntsville Chapter was invited to participate in STEM workshop for a local sorority that focused on young ladies, 4 years old – 8th grade. BDPA members presented hands on activities that included, coding, pneumatics, robotics and artistic slime making. Mrs. Patricia King presented hands-on application on how pneumatics work using Legos, while Mr. Bernard Nealy showcased the software capabilities of the Raspberry Pi computer to the 6-8th graders. Vice President of Technology Rosalind McCullough and President of the Huntsville Chapter, Sylvia Archie interacted with the 2nd-5th grade age group using MIT’s Scratch to create their own interactive stories and animations in the onsite computer lab. One of the highlights of the events was when Claudia Williams and Sara Davis announced to the 4 year old – 1st grade group that they would be making “SLIME”. A loud roar and applause filled the room. The chapter is looking forward to participating in other events that engages students in hands-on activities that offer opportunities to interact with STEM professionals in our community. -Claudia Williams, BDPAHSV
