SITES - Student Information Technology Education and Scholarship
The SITES Initiative is designed to introduce students grades K-12 of African-American descent and underserved communities to the field of Information Technology through computer training, by encouraging them to seek higher levels of education and grooming many of them to become the next generation of IT Professionals. This program is offered to students across the country at no cost to the students.
Several programs already established to meet these objectives for grades 7-12 are:
SITES Programs
- Youth Computer Training
- Annual Regional and National High School Computer Competitions (HSCC)
- Annual Youth Technology Conference
With these programs, we expose youth to IT at a young age and give them the skills to compete and succeed in a college environment or technical workforce. The SITES Initiative trains between 600 and 1,000 students each year in web development utilizing advanced technologies like ASP, .NET (dotNet), PHP and Java.
Local computer experts teach and students learn basic computer concepts, development methodologies, HTML and project management in BDPA chapter cities across the country.
The SITES Initiative is designed to provide training and opportunities in Information Technology, unlike any in the world, to underserved youth around the country at little or no cost to the students. The 50+ BDPA chapters throughout the country serve as the delivery mechanism for this initiative with training and mentoring programs that directly impact the youth in these cities.
The chapters are supported by the National organization that assists by providing the infrastructure, core curriculum, subject matter experts, competition management and evaluation for this initiative which transitions students of color from the classroom to the boardroom in an attempt to bridge the gap identified as the digital divide.
Don't wait, don't hesitate, don't procrastinate, become a BDPA member today!
