Cincinnati Blacks In Technology’ to collaborate with the vibrant community of like-minded technology professionals of color in our city. The doors are wide open for those folks passionate about all things technical. Our meetups encourage fun, socializing and high level talks on a variety of technology topics. IT recruiters and IT job seekers are both welcome!
Is your Cyber-Zipper Down? We plan to use this meetup to address cyber-security risk management for IT professionals. Given today’s changing and inter-connected business models, technological advances, coupled with the fast changing regulatory and legal landscapes, fully protecting business and personal data is akin to hitting a moving target on a sliding scale. Cybercriminals are especially targeting small businesses and consultants because they lack the experience, resources and budget for a robust cyber security strategy. However, through proactive education, awareness, and preparation not every cyber-security breach event has to be disastrous, in fact many problems can be mitigated. This session will be a comprehensive overview addressing cyber-security risk management on the most commonly vulnerable aspects that affect IT professionals.
This workshop will cover many topics including the following:
• An overview of cyber insurance policy coverage
• Cloud backup and mobile security
• Federal and State network security and privacy regulatory overview
• Network and social media policies
• The risk and cost of not complying
• Why cyber security and privacy is important
The goal is to engage everyone -- from individual IT professionals to the general public -- on the importance of staying safe online and to drive home the message that everyone is responsible for cyber security and safety. Whether you operate or work for a small, mid-size, or large private or public entity, or a non-profit, this session will offer steps you should consider now to mitigate losses and to protect your sensitive data and the personal identifiable information of your customers, employees and other third parties.
These are questions that will be addressed by our guest speaker, Christopher Bomar, who is the president and founder of Boomarang Data Backup and Security. A former Ohio licensed insurance agent, he is an author, speaker, instructor and consultant on data security risk management, best practices and due diligence. He specializes in Federal/State compliance and other regulatory matters relating to cyber security. Since 1999 Christopher has helped thousands of individuals and businesses to protect and recover data from total loss using online backup technology. He also teaches small businesses, non-profit organizations and local municipal governments how to implement best practices for safeguarding sensitive data and how to prevent data loss and theft. He currently teaches Continuing Education classes in Ohio and Kentucky for insurance agents and underwriters.
BDPA is blessed to have Christopher sharing his expertise and wisdom with BDPA members at this meetup. Anyone … regardless of race or color … interested in tech is welcome!
