Worldwide Wine Tasting

Whether you're looking to impress that important client, or just want to have more fun in social settings, a knowledge of wine can be a valuable asset. Byron C Mayes, Certified Specialist of Wine, will share the fundamentals of wine and wine tasting through a guided interactive tasting that's both fun and educational. You'll taste a selection of five wines from regions around the world representing various "meta" aspects of wine and winemaking. Come armed with wine questions -- about pairing, regions, grapes, etc. -- and you'll leave with a solid understanding of the principles of wine tasting and the ability to speak with confidence about the wines you encounter.

Our Host/Lecturer:
Byron C Mayes, CSW, was born in Louisiana and is now a resident of Philadelphia. Byron's passion for fine wine was sparked by an obscure dessert wine at a San Francisco French restaurant. After years of self-study, formal training, and lots of tasting, he was designated Certified Specialist of Wine by the Society of Wine Educators in 2011. Well-versed in the basics of wine and its classic representations, he regularly shares his knowledge with wine connoisseurs and novices alike in formal and casual settings, and specializes in Germany and the less familiar regions of Southwest France and Uruguay. Byron is a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington and received post-graduate degrees from the University of Hartford and the University of Maryland, College Park. Byron also serves as CIO for BDPA Philadelphia.
