VisionIT CEO appointed by Secretary of Commerce to the National Advisory Council on Minority Business Enterprise

Washington, D.C., Nov 3rd, 2010.

VisionIT's CEO, David H. Segura was one of 25 people appointed by U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Gary Locke to the National Advisory Council on Minority Business Enterprise (Council). This council is newly re-established by the U.S. Government after being dormant for nearly 40 years.

David Segura shared, "I am very thankful to continue to work with this administration on initiatives that I am personally passionate about in creating significant growth for minority-owned businesses. Implementing these strategies at this time is critical to the on-going success of the United States. Many of the next great innovations will need to develop from the minority business community and reach domestic and global markets."

David was also appointed by President Obama recently to the Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations.

From a well respected senior leader at HP, BDPA High School Computer Competition (HSCC) Corporate Sponsor:

Re: Looking For Java and .Net Developers

Hi Milt,

I have a need on my team for a few good developers with 5 – 7 years of experience. Take a look at the attached job description and let me know if you know of anyone who might be qualified and interested in relocating to either Houston or Austin.

Have them send me a soft copy of their resume and to log on at http://www.jobs.hp.com/ to create their profile and apply online to job number 488095.

Thanks,

LaTasha Gary

Diversity/Careers Magazine - The Job Market is Improving for African Americans in IT

The Job Market is Improving for African Americans in IT. When the economy started getting pummeled a few years ago, the IT job market also took some hits, but 2010 may turn out to be its comeback year, says Wayne Hicks, executive director of the BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF). BETF is a nonprofit charity founded in 1992 to support the education and technical programs of the Black Data Processing Associates (BDPA) organization.

High Praise for BDPA Richmond Support of Robotics Training for Elementary School Students

BDPA has a strong history of providing programs to engage high school students. Our national high school computer competition has been going on for over 25 years. We added the BDPA IT Showcase about eight years ago. My hope is that BDPA will participate at some level in the 2011 Imagine Cup.

I think that most BETF-Blog readers will agree that one area that we have not been as active or strong is in the technology-based support and education of elementary school students. However, that is beginning to change in Richmond, Virginia. BDPA Richmond chapter has been working for the last decade on teaching concepts of science, technology and robotics to elementary school students.

It appears to be paying off. Here is a testimonial that was recently posted on the BDPA Richmond chapter YahooGroup.

DogFood Conference 2010–Columbus, OH

Last week the annual DogFood Conference, a local conference centered around technical presentations on Microsoft technologies, took place. In addition to listening to some great presentations (my colleagues Mario, Veenus, and Bill were among the presenters), I also volunteered to work the registration table. I was able to see how many people had registered, and folks were pouring in bright and early. The waiting list seemed almost as long as the registered list!
